 Iranian Elections After the disputed presidential elections, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has fired at least four Intelligence Ministry officials who have disagreed with President regarding crackdown on opposition. This incident has deepened the rift between President Ahmadinejad and the critics within his own political camp over the suppression of pro-reform opposition since the June elections. Public anger has also been fuelled due to the allegations that the detained reporters have been subjected to torture and abuse in custody, and among them several people have already died. There is a new allegation by the opposition that detained protestors have been raped in the jail. Mr. Ali Larijani, a parliamentary speaker and powerful conservative said that a parliamentary committee will be set up and investigate these alleged reports. The top intelligent officials ousted by the President reportedly not backed current government's claim that post election protests in the country are a part of opposition aim to topple the clerical leadership. Some ministry officials had opposed broadcasting confessions by detainees that they were abused and tortured during jail time. Many pro reform websites have claimed that more than dozen top intelligent officials were either fired or forced to resign in the past few weeks, but the exact number remains unclear. According to website khabaraonline, four deputy ministers within the government including the head of counterespionage and 25 year old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, both have been removed. Younesi, whose father had served as minister during the pro-reform administration said, "Ahmadinejad has effectively taken control of the country's most important security body and is settling scores". Ahmad Avai, conservative lawmaker, said parliament is considering probe into the dismissals of the intelligent officials. Ahmad Avaid said "There is justified concern. If this trend continues, irreparable damage will be inflicted on the Intelligence Ministry". The Ministry on Monday said in a statement that media has got hold of "some incorrect reports", referring to the reports of dismissal without elaborating. It warned that any media house that will publish the names of intelligence ministry officials would be prosecuted. In the past few months, about hundred persons have been arrested as the massive protest broke out in the country over claims that President Ahmadinejad's victory was forged.
